Hiring Engineers, General Contractors and Subcontractors in St. Johns County, FL

While you’re waiting for your custom house plan to be drafted, it’s a good idea to draw up a shortlist of reputable engineers and contractors that you want to contact. By reputable, I mean those licensed with the State of Florida. Start by doing a Contractor Search via St. Johns County Building Department. You can also ask friends, relatives and colleagues for recommendations.

Note that you should wait for your finalized house plan before you start asking for estimates. Contractors can’t give you an accurate bid if they can’t see a blueprint. Get at least three written estimates so that you can compare prices, timelines, etc. And don’t be afraid to ask about projects that they’ve worked on. Reputable contractors will be happy to let you talk to past clients.
